A short wire story we’re running today references a project at the University of Oregon that has made available Ye Olde Timey newspapers from several locations around the Beaver State. One of those locations happens to be Pendleton, so if you’re interested in reading old (really old) EOs, here’s a place to look. There are 13 other locations, too.

At least one Walla Wallan took part in the Ironman Coeur d’Alene. Marcella Rietz completed here third consecutive Ironman. About what it takes to prepare for the competition she said: “It requires a lot of hours, a lot of flexibility from your family, a lot of early mornings. I’m getting up at about 4:20 and doing about two, 21/2 hours a day.”

Morrow County Undersheriff Steve Myren saved Walla Walla Man from the Columbia River before a 4th of July celebration. “I looked downstream and saw a little black speck way off in the distance,” Myren said. He drove for that speck. What he found was a man clinging to a personal watercraft that had all but sunk. Only about 6 inches of the vehicle was above water.
